#sleep Have you heard of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTI)? Probably not. Yet, the American College of Physicians suggest that CBTI should be the first line treatment for primary insomnia. “For people willing to do such therapy, CBTI has been found to be as or more effective than drug therapy for chronic insomnia. CBTI has also been found to alleviate symptoms of insomnia during pregnancy and in people with comorbidities such as obstructive sleep apnea.” This toolbox of techniques is best utilized through a trained practitioner or program. However, there are a few approved apps and on-line programs that have been getting some attention. The Cleveland Sleep Clinic offers a 6-week online program called “Go! to Sleep,” and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers one of the same duration called “Path to Better Sleep.” Additionally, the FDA has approved a Stanford app called Somryst and Sleepio is actually offered to some large employers for their workforce. https://ift.tt/fIRLPm7
