#stress So, how do we support Gen Z so that they can thrive? Here’s a few options;
– Create meaningful ways/time to connect to family and community. They may have moved away but they still benefit from from home, community and their cultural connections
– Assist them in seeking professional mental heath support if they ask. If they don’t ask, don’t be afraid to check in – “I’ve missed you and I feel so stressed, are you feeling like I am?”, “Is there anything that is really stressing you out? Can I be of help?”
– Acknowledge that the past few years have been tremendously hard and they were asked to do things that we have never asked before from our youth. They needed to mask and we basically told them that they might be responsible for killing their grandparents if they didn’t 100% fully comply. We asked them to stop going to school, to isolate from friends. This had and will continue to have a profound effect on them.
– Ask them to identify 3-5 things each day that brought them joy or a sense of “all is well”. Being able to point to a few times each day that were “good” helps to rebuild trust that there is “good” in the world and that they can and do experience it daily.
