#activity Why is flexibility important? Flexibility is about muscle length and range. When muscles shorten or the range changes, it effects out body mechanics. For example, it alters your gait, or how you walk, which may stain ligaments and tendons in your hip and back. This could lead to excess wear and tear on a joint resulting in the need for joint replacement. Over time, any muscle that cannot sufficiently relax and stretch will limit our mobility (think of your ability to reach a high shelf, the seat belt in the car, something that falls n the floor). My son recommended I do 10 old fashioned toe touches every morning to increase my flexibility through the back of my legs. It has done wonders. 10 toe touches a day (PS – When I first started I wasn’t even close, now I can touch the floor).
