#Stress All joking aside – many of us use alcohol to “just take the edge off” to “de-stress” and for every once in a while, alcohol can serve that purpose. We can show from a scientific standpoint how and why it does. But – and this is a BIG BUT – used too often or too much, the same science can show how the alcohol will actually increase our feelings of anxiety, stress and depression. Did you know , “Alcohol changes levels of serotonin and other neurotransmitters in the brain, which can worsen anxiety. In fact, you may feel more anxious after the alcohol wears off. Alcohol-induced anxiety can last for several hours, or even for an entire day after drinking.”? So, careful with your merriment this season. It may not be as helpful as you think!
