This article lays out the known body of research that proves the importance of good sleep to overall heart health and specifically in controlling blood pressure. The phenomenon of “nocturnal dipping” doesn’t happen if we don’t get enough sleep or if we have a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea that prevents normal sleep patterns. So what’s preventing your good sleep? What have you done to try to increase your length & quality of sleep? Have you invested in a sound machine, room darkening shades or a sleep mask? Do you limit the number or timing of caffeinated drinks or drinking in general? This month why not try to move the needle just a little.
