How to Cope With the Holiday Blues#stress The “holiday blues” is a term used to describe a mild depression or sadness that starts around November or December and lifts shortly after the new year ends. Symptoms could include crying easily, feeling alone and like “I just can’t get into the holiday spirit”, sometimes it’s being quicker to be angry. There are some steps you can take to minimize feeling “blue”. Reliable RN will be talking about those over the next week. However, if your depression is stopping you from getting out of bed or you have thought about hurting yourself please call 988 from any phone.
Ways to start to feel better? Don’t Isolate Yourself. Sadness often makes you want to hide by yourself at home and, if you’re on your own apart from family or friends, reaching out and finding social support can be difficult. “Look for ways that you can enjoy social connections, even if you aren’t able to go home for the holidays. If you’re feeling lonely, ask a friend to come over for a heart-to-heart. Join a local club, volunteer for something you believe in, or even see a counselor for support.” Force yourself to go and talk to others. Even grabbing a coffee or tea and saying “hi” and making eye contact can remind you that you are not alone. Reach out – @ReliableRN
