Hypersomnia vs Narcolepsy: What’s the Difference? | Sleep Foundation

#sleep Hypersomnia vs Narcolepsy – Do you have either of these? Have they identified a cause for you? Do you have a treatment that’s working for you? “Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that causes a person to feel overly sleepy or to fall asleep at unwanted times during the day.” There is a type 1 and type 2 narcolepsy and scientists admit to not knowing the cause of type 2. Hypersomnia has more to do with excessive daytime sleepiness and/or needing significantly more sleep hours than the average person. Hypersomnia can be caused by different diseases such as Parkinson’s, traumatic brain injury, genetic disorders or endocrine issues.
