Menopause related sleep disorders – PubMed

Menopause related sleep disorders – PubMed#sleep “Sleep difficulty is one of the hallmarks of menopause”. Same is true for peri-menopause. Is this you? Do you track your sleep with a fit bit, apple product or any of the newer devices/apps? Might be a good idea. “Sleep disordered breathing (SDB) increases markedly at menopause “. Sleep disordered breathing can be caused by and effect weight gain. It can exacerbate other conditions like anxiety or depression. In addition to disordered breathing the endocrine society did a study showing “In addition to estrogen withdrawal, sleep disturbances decrease fat utilization. This may increase the likelihood of fat storage and subsequent weight gain during menopause.” Hormonal shifts and sleep issues are worthy of a conversation with your doctor. Tracking sleep habits may be key to having an informed discussion with your MD that can be targeted to getting your sleep back on track.
