#sleep #activity #brain “Poor sleep negatively impacts memory in older adults, but a physically active lifestyle may help alleviate some of these consequences.” As June winds down Reliable RN’s blog will switch to new research on activity and it’s benefits. But, as the last post on sleep this month, lets look at one way to decrease the negative effects of good sleep. This study was originally published in the journal Behavioral Brain Research. It links memory issues to sleep issues. Not news for those following the blog this month. What is news is that activity can compensate for the memory issues brought about by poor sleep. The study found that individuals with sleep issues but an active lifestyle had no significant memory loss as compared to individuals with sleep issues who were inactive. “The study also found that sleep and physical activity may work together to influence levels of brain beta-amyloid, however further research would be required to fully understand these associations.”
