Staying Hydrated During the Hot Summer Weather | SportMedBC #activity Its hot and humid here in New England (and most of the US). A heat wave is not the time to start a running program but, we need to be active every day. We especially need hydration to stay active in high heat. Our bodies are 50-60% water. Some tips for staying hydrated:
– start your day with an 8oz (240 ml) glass of water. We lose water when we sleep
– coffee and tea do NOT count, they are diuretics and pull water out of your system
– drink before you are thirsty. By the time you feel thirsty you are probably at least 2 cups of water down from where you should be.
– alcoholic beverages are like coffee and tea, you’ll actually need more water if you are drinking alcohol
Stay safe but also keep moving – you can walk in an air conditioned mall or by a body of water (it’s normally cooler at waters edge). kayak, swim, bike at a relaxed pace or walk after sundown when it’s cooler. Happy Friday! Go to www.reliablern.com to contact me for even more suggestion.
