#stress Why can it affect pain? A panic cycle is that feeling of being overwhelmed – work deadlines, two appointments at the same time, the check engine light is on and your phone is ringing. The interesting thing is that you might easily mange all these things one day but on another day, just 2 of those things might send you into a panic cycle. “The panic spiral can hamstring your logical reasoning, limit your sense of what’s possible, and even bring on physical constriction and pain.” And here’s why… if the nervous system perceives a stressor, it takes the controls away from the prefrontal cortex which is responsible for curiosity, creativity, empathy and logic. Instead it lets the amygdala take over. That’s the emergency responder part of our brain; fight or flight. Pain and tension happens when the amygdala mistakes everyday stressors for a possible survival threat. You end up with a racing heart, stiff neck, possibly a migraine or gastro intestinal issues. So how can you stop the cycle and/or prevent the next one? Check back tomorrow or, read the credited blog!
