Is there a connection between chronic pain and sleep? YES. “Recent experimental studies suggest that sleep disturbance may impair key processes that contribute to the development and maintenance of chronic pain, including endogenous pain inhibition and joint pain.” In plain English it means that the cells and pathways responsible for managing our pain don’t work as well when our sleep is poor. What’s still being studied is why? Does chronic pain create bad sleep or poor sleep contribute to more chronic pain? What exact pathways are at play? Either way, improving sleep does seem to have a positive effect on the body’s ability to regulate chronic pain. https://ift.tt/DJuNM0G
