It’s starting to be “holiday” time. That means most of us want to look and feel our best. But, we also tend to overindulge in food and drink while also staying out later and skimping on sleep. So how do you support you wellness, physical, mental and emotional so you can more fully enjoy the next 6 weeks? My suggestion, increase your workouts. Find an activity you like, running, yoga, dancing, Zumba, walking, pickleball, tennis, boxing – the list is endless. Now, commit to engaging in some type of activity at least double the amount of time you normally do. So, if you haven’t been working out at all, start at 2 times per week. If you normally get to the gym 3 times a week, aim for 5 to 6 times a week. Why? First off, the added activity will be good for your waist line. In the next 6 weeks most of us will over consume sweets, alcohol, breads and even just the overall number of meals per day. This just naturally happens as you attend after work parties, weekend brunches and gatherings with friends and family. All of which is great! Please don’t think you shouldn’t go to these social events. For many, it’s what makes this time of year more joyous and fun. Secondly, the added activity will help to establish habit. It gives you a set place to be at a certain time, regularly, when maybe the rest of your schedule is more chaotic due to the holidays. It’s good to create some anticipated activity – gives you something to plan for which might make you less likely to overindulge too much. “I have a 8am yoga class tomorrow, I think I need to head home”; or ” I have a 3 mile run later today, I’m going to pass on that second cookie”. Lastly, the added activity will keep good hormones high and the tougher seasonal hormones in check. So a good workout stimulates production of endorphins, dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. These are our “feel good” hormones. The next 6 weeks are high stress weeks. That’s just truth. Why prepare for the next 6 weeks by giving yourself the gift of wellness? Why not start January 2026 feeling and looking better than when you started November of 2025? Truth is – tis the season for happiness, joy and wellness. Peace to you and yours!
