activity What are the 4 types of activity we all need? Endurance, Strength, Balance and Flexibility. How many do you get? Got a favorite for each? The 4 types combine to give us the best chance of aging well. Endurance “Endurance exercises improve the health of your heart, lungs, and circulatory system. They also can delay or prevent many diseases that are common in older adults such as diabetes, colon and breast cancers, heart disease, and others.”
Endurance activities – Biking, dancing, tennis, swimming, climbing stairs, yard work and walking
Strength – Using weights, carrying groceries, using resistance bands, pushups, planks
Balance – Tai Chi, standing from a seated position without using your arms, standing on 1 foot for 10 seconds (can you do it on both sides?), yoga
Flexibility – Yoga, stretches, toe touches (can you do 10 each morning?), rag doll pose
