#nutrition “Sugary drinks, the study found, have consistently been a top source of U.S. kids’ empty-calorie intake.” Empty calories are calories we take in from foods or drinks that have little to no nutritional value. The study says kids routinely get 1/4 of their daily calories from these types of drinks. How? For younger kids, juices, older kids, soda, grown ups, high sugar coffee or energy drinks. In addition to drinks there’s candy, brownies, donuts, a morning pastry, ice cream – I’m thinking you get the point. Nothing listed here is a “NEVER” but, is it a once a week treat or a daily habit? Do you make a conscious effort to limit “empty” calories or do you want, maybe even NEED, the empty calorie food or drink to feel more awake? Are we setting good examples for the children who are part of our lives? Do you think that matters?
